Social Status / beSocial

2025

This interior project establishes the first Detroit home for Social Status and beSocial, a streetwear retail concept and community space with locations in Charlotte, Philadelphia, Houston, Baltimore and other cities. Occupying the largest of four retail spaces in Building in a Building, the store is set back from the street behind the 100-year-old brick facade and adjacent to the courtyard and basketball court.

The design allows the space to switch between retail and community events with a large central table, a media board, and custom objects that double as seating and product display. Tall displays and a mezzanine take advantage of the interior’s ample height, creating intimate rooms underneath. On the side, large windows and a second entrance connect the inside with the courtyard, framing the vibrant colors of the mural with the grey-on-grey interior .
